As a breast cancer survivor, a person’s body and mind has fought valiantly for survival. However, according to the Cleveland Clinic, there is up to a 25% chance of breast cancer recurrence within 10 years. In addition to radiation therapy and other treatments, exercise is a valuable tool for breast cancer survivors in their journey toward long-term health and well-being:

Reduced risk of recurrence Evidence suggests that routine physical activity can reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Continuing to be physically active can help survivors preserve their improved health and minimize the chances of recurrence by supporting the immune system.

Improved bone health Some breast cancer treatments can lead to bone loss and osteoporosis. Weight-bearing exercises, like walking or any aerobic activity on your feet where your bones are supporting your weight, can help maintain bone density and reduce the risk of bone breaks and fractures.

Emotional well-being  As aforementioned, regular exercise has been proven to lessen anxiety and depression, which can be widespread among the breast cancer survivor community. Exercise provides an outlet for mental and physical stress to promote a more positive outlook on life.
